Twin Cities Theatres of Color Coalition

Client: Theater Mu
Agency: KNOCK Inc
My Role: Senior Art Director & Designer

The Twin Cities Theatres of Color Coalition formed in 2014 by New Native Theatre, Penumbra, Pangea World Theater, Teatro del Pueblo, and Theater Mu—five theaters of color—after seeing an increase in racial tensions and stereotypical depictions of people of color on stage. The coalition exists to build knowledge, capacity, and act around the challenges and opportunities of diversification in the American theatre. We lead conversations, making available the wealth and depth of knowledge housed in our theatres through the dissemination of tools, practices, and consultation to bolster responsible and accountable engagement around the representation of our communities. For the 10-year anniversary, Twin Cities Theatres of Color Coalition wanted to unveil a new logo to represent the coalition. With this new logo they want to start a new chapter of united outreach in the community.

The new logo was inspired by spirals and the Fibonacci sequence. From one starting point the organization and its impact grows and expands, spiraling out into new areas that all connect. Within the negative space of the logo the spiral is created to represent this growth and expansion of the coalition.
